Copenhagen Tobacco : The Better Chew

May 27th, 2010

My friend and I have argued for years about which is a better chew.  My favorite and the only one that I chew is Copenhagen Tobacco. He chews and only chews Skoal. We both like the wintergreen chew, sometimes I will get a can of the natural to change it up a bit.  We both chew the long cuts and I have never tried any of the other types like a pouch or fine cut. To me it seems that the finer cut tobacco’s would get stuck in your teeth and the pouches would not have as much flavor.  But, my friend has tried the pouches, and says they are pretty good.  He said the flavor is the same, the feeling is a bit different, but actually worth trying.  I guess I am stuck on old ways, and I don’t really like to change to much. Copenhagen has alway been a quality tobacco, I have never received a can that wasn’t moist or old. Recently, I started to order online because I found it to be cheaper than at the gas station. I will order enough to get me through the month, shipping costs really aren’t terrible and the whole process is well worth it. My friend has yet to order online, but he isn’t into the internet the same as I am. But, I keep telling him he will save big bucks this way. He is worried that if he runs out, and hasn’t ordered already, he would have to wait days before his package gets to him.  But, if you order early, let say when you have 1 or 2 cans left, it should give you pleanty to wait for the arrival. As far as which chew is better, it really comes down to the name brand. They are both in the same price range, and have about as many flavors as the other does. The both have a variety of types to choose from, I think skoal may have more fruity flavors, but I definetly am not looking for those. So I am going to continue to argue for my Copenhagen Tobacco, because it is moist, it doesn’t have an overpowering flavor that will knock you down and it is realitively inexpensive.

Let the Barbecue Season Open

April 14th, 2010

It is time to tidy up your griddles, put on your cut-off’s and flip flops and experience the day out bbqing and smoking awesome Cigars. with my favourite cigars, I like to drink a drink of scotch and just relax. After such a long winter, which seemed to be longer than years past, last weekend was perfect BBQ weather. I was able to eventually open all of my windows and air out the house. I don’t smoke within, but it required displaying out anyhow. I tuned up my grass mower because yes, sadly it is that time of the year as well . The snow is gone and the grass is growing. I don’t mind cutting my grass and keeping the turf up. There is really a great satisfaction to a nice looking grass and worth all the effort. This past weekend, I smoked my favourite cigar and BBQ’d up some ribs and pork steaks. I really like to think of myself as the master chef, king of the grill. There is nothing like lighting those coals and going to the city on bountiful meats and veggies. Of course I think of myself as a charcoal man, I love the flavour of the griddle. If you use gas, it does not get the smokey flavour that I love and is way overrated. I invited all of my buddies and of course the other half and children were there. It is a bit to cold to swim yet, but once memorial day comes around, I’m going to open the pool for the season. My youngsters love swimming and splashing around, also I am known to take a dip with cigar and scotch in hand. Summer is just such a great time to get together with family and friends and enjoying life they way you wish to.

Purchasing Your Portable Humidor

March 17th, 2010

There’s nothing better than lighting up a cigar when its time to compose yourself, either after a long days work, on the golfing course and after we take care of something big, like an individual and a pro fulfillment.  And the more time we smoke cigars and become more acquainted with smokes – the more we find out more about looking after them.  And naturally when we start to smoke hand rolled, more expensive brands, we discover how significant it is to keep them at there optimum level of freshness.  You didn’t have to stress out about purchasing a cigar case for your Dutch Master Cigars that you used to get.So when it is time to travel with our smokes -or even if we only wish to have a better way to keep them while going to work or out on SOHO dinners -we definitely want a better way to protect there flavor, as well as carry them properly.  And choosing a Cigar Travel Humidor should be something that we take somewhat seriously.  Honestly, when you concentrate on it, more people will see our travel humidor than will see our home or first humidor.  So selecting a good, quality travelling humidor must be handled with the same sort of thought and detail as when we chose our home humidor.  Here are some tips for selecting a travelling humidor : These are the basics, but knowing them will prepare you for your search.  The Size- fundamentally, how many cigars will you travel with.  Don’t be scared to over do it a bit.  Clearly, it’s better to have more space than not enough.  Lid and Seal – Depending on the type of humidor you need – whether it be a solid case / box -or a leather one – The lid should close on a cushion of air.  We do not desire ANY air inside our humidor.  Air is the enemy and without reference to size, we should always buy a cigar travel humidor that follows the same principles as a regular humidor.  Inside and Lining – For traveling, our cigar humidor needs fingered surrounding so that our cigars stay nice and snug during our travels -especially for long distance trips.  And a good insulated material is always a plus .  Humidifier Device – I’ve seen some fellows that essentially paid money on a humidor with no humidifier device – and its a total let down.  The Humidifier is the backbone of a good, quality travel humidor.  That’s what controls the inside humidity levels within the stogie travel humidor.

Cigars and Women

March 2nd, 2010

I tend to puff on cigars with my husband or at a get along with pals. How often I smoke can range from 3 or 4 times every week to zero in a week. It truly depends on my mood and whether I’ve got the time to commit to the whole cigar. I think it’s the best of both worlds when a husband and wife can share such a hobby. So instead of sending him outside to smoke by himself, we both relax outside on the porch together and unwind, share our day and relax over a pleasant cigar (and maybe a cold libation as well). However the disadvantage would be the already bulging cigar budget now has a second wishlist added to it. So it’s great when we find a line we both enjoy, which there are 2 (Rocky Patel being one of those we both like). Personally, my favorite cigar now is the Rocky Patel Edge Maduro Toro. Can’t get too much of them. I am also partial to the J. Fuego Corojos and the CAO Flavored Cigars which are more of a special occasion smoke. But a good old standby for me would have to be the H. Upmann Vintage Cameroon. I have never been too large on Connecticut wrappers, but I like to try cigars that are new to me periodically so I don’t get burned out smoking the same thing all the time. Fundamentally, I know what I like but I am definitely open to proposals. There are such a lot of different cigars out on the market today and if I just stick to one special line, I may be depriving myself of the next best thing if I don’t keep an open mind.

Stogies and Spirits Revisted

February 24th, 2010

The instant effect of miami suites cigars on your taste buds is strong. If you plan to drink or eat during or straight after smoking a cigar, your selections have to be made meticulously to avoid a mismatch. The smoky, cedary bouquet of a powerful cigar can linger on your palate for hours, and it’ll continue to make a contribution to whatever you are drinking or eating. Paired properly with the right food and drink, say a dark barley wine or a peaty single malt scotch, this match may be made in heaven. The peaty-rich nose and the finish of completely ripe apricots offered by a barley wine, together with a cigar’s potent contribution of a creamy smooth taste with hints of cedar and spice, can be an amazing combo.

The bottom line is that you can match cigars with lager, wine, food or spirits – all you have to know is what combinations you do and don’t enjoy, which is just data gained thru experimentation. It doesn’t need to be said that your own tastes are the final arbiter of what’s right on your table.

Cigar Production and Quality

February 10th, 2010

Just as the western european wine industry experienced strain and growing pains as US wine producers gained global accolades, the Cuban cigar industry must face market facts that they are not the world figure in cigar production and cigar quality.  In fact, the lifting of the Embargo ( whatever that implies ) won’t, can not return Cuba to its glory days.  The cigar industry has taken root and gained force in a number of the states mentioned above, and there isn’t any indication that they may go into bankruptcy if the embargo is lifted.  They are gaining notoriety and accolades for manufacturing quality products that the US cigar fan has grown to accept and love.

Only Days to the Tobacco Ban

December 29th, 2009

So, my town has chosen a smoking ban for all public facilities, with only minimum exemptions. I am so tired of my rights being taken away, I am disgusted. I don’t understand the reason non-smokers have such a assertive judgement on what us smokers want to do. Everyone knows that smoking is damaging, but I made a conscience selection when I took up smoking, aware of the fact it was not good. Just because non-smokers want me to cease, will not mean that it is going to happen. Smoking in pubs has been a privilage, but most restaurants have a approved smoking room. If non-smokers don’t want to be in the smoke, don’t sit in the smoking room, you are not unwilling made to sit in that section. And as far as the employees of these restaurants that state they are tortured by second hand smoke, what a joke. I held jobs in the hospitality industry for more than 10 years, and I know that the majority of thepeople I worked with were smokers.  Doing business with the public, tends to, initiates you to inhale.  And, I have never heard any non-smoking co-worker ever whine about second hand smoke while working in the smoking room. Putting a smoking ban in restaurants and bars, will only save me money, because I won’t eat out after the January 1st.

All I have to have for the holiday: Stogies!

December 18th, 2009

I have decided this christmas to beg for basic Christmas Gifts that my wife can pick out easily for me. My selection, as always, is my well-beloved stogie from dutch-master-cigars.com. She won’t even have to leave our house, she can go on the internet (I have all my favorites sites saved) and throw in the order there. As far as other gifts, she can take a trip to the closest shop and choose a gift. She argues every holiday that I am the most difficult man to buy for. But we have been inseperable for about 15 years! And if she doesn’t understand the things I like by now, I quit. I always say every holiday, “I got to have cigars”, I enjoy 1 or 2 per day, and that adds up. I have a humidor for holding my cigars, “what’s that for?” she askes. Well my love, it’s to keep my cigars crisp. So, if you get me smokes for December I can store them in there for a few months and get one when I am wishing to enjoy one. Although I have to say, I got blessed with luck last year, she gave me a lighter that was ingraved with my initials. The prior year, she got me a fishing pole, without thinking I said I would like to go fishing again someday. Well, I went fishing one time since then, but guess what, I still enjoy 1-2 cigars in a day. Well what do I want for the holiday this year? I want Stogies, and all else would just be an secondary enjoyment.

Cigar: Information for the novice cigar smoker

November 10th, 2009

The most basic method of identifying cigars is by the method in which they are made. Cigars are either rolled by hand, or manufactured by machines. The newer smoker may be tempted to start by trying those machine made brands sold in Drug Stores, such as El Producto. However, the aspiring connoisseur should consider spending a few more pennies and moving up to hand rolled cigars, which are sold online or at a local tobacconist.

Daily Smokers Vs Connoisseurs
TypicalIndividual cigar smokers have their own unique tastes, and have their own individual financial constraints. Those who like smoking several cigars per day may need an “everyday” cigar that is cheap. Therefore, the taste and cost of machine made cigars can be very handsome to some smokers. However, to the new smoker or experienced connoisseurs, the ones who enjoy an occasional cigar as a special treat, the hand rolled cigar is worth every penny.
